Why Type 1 Diabetics Die Young, and How to Live to a Ripe Old Age

The recommended diets for Type 1 diabetics have traditionally been to eat around 60 grams of carbohydrate in three meals per day, and around 15 grams of carbohydrate to correct low blood sugar, in snacks throughout the day.

When a Type 1 Diabetic eats this way, he or she needs to give large doses of insulin to correct for snacks and meals. What many diabetics don't know is that most diabetic complications are not primarily caused by chronic high blood sugar, but are primarily caused by high circulating levels of insulin. High circulating levels of insulin given as corrections for the carbohydrates a Type 1 diabetic eats directly cause insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 Diabetes.

That's right. It is not the Type 1 that kills you, due to higher than normal blood sugars over many years. It is the Type 2 Diabetes most Type 1's develop as a result of insulin therapy to correct for the carbohydrates in the diet. The way for a Type 1 Diabetic to live into their 80's with little or no diabetic complications? Eat low carb, cut back on your insulin doses, increase your insulin sensitivity, and reverse your insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 Diabetes. So long as you maintain your A1c levels between 6.0 and 7.0, which happens anyway on a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet with very little effort, you can live to a healthy old age with very little diabetic complications. Again, it is not glucotoxicity (sugar toxicity) that causes diabetic complications in Type 1's, it is insulin toxicity.

The solution? Eat a LCHF diet modified by the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol, and and prevent the development of Type 2 or Type 3 Diabetes (also known as Alzheimer's).
