Correcting Low Blood Sugar the Paleo Way: Part II

I just wrote a post on correcting low blood sugar for diabetics when someone is at home. It is called Correcting Low Blood Sugar the Paleo Way. I would read that post and then this post, because they go together. Here are some of my strategies for when my low blood sugars happen when I am not at home, but out and about.

My favorite low blood sugar management tool when I am not at home is to carry two bags of the Go Raw brand sprouted cookies. I buy them at Alfalfa's in Louisville, Colorado and I often rotate between the Carrot Cake, Masala Chai, Lemon, and Ginger Snap flavors.

The reason I like these "cookies" is that they are very shelf-stable, so they keep for a long time. They are sweetened with dates, so no processed sugar is in them, and each cookie is small enough so that you can calibrate the number of carbohydrates for correcting your blood sugar very closely. Each bag of cookies is also small enough to easily fit into a medium sized purse or small backpack or messenger bag.

I used my kitchen scale to measure how many cookies are in the serving size of 1 oz. and then divided the number of cookies by the amount of carbohydrates in a 1 oz. serving. I then listed the amount of carbohydrates in one cookie in my notes App in my phone. This makes it very easy to accurately count how many cookies I need to correct a low blood sugar when I am out and about.

I hope this information is helpful to someone else, and please let me know what you or someone else you know has come up with to manage low blood sugars the Paleo way when not at home. Until next time!
