3 Stars

The writing and editing of this novel was fairly clean in the ARC version of the manuscript, with occasional typos. However, there was quite a bit of awkward or incorrect sentence structure that detracted somewhat from the reading experience. The world building was briefly sketched out, with the alien landscape and culture being somewhat anemically described. The characterization was thin, with the hero and heroine being sympathetic but not well realized individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was not especially well done, with me the reader not really seeing the process of these two characters falling in love, and me the reader falling in love alongside them. The plot and pacing was quick, and the stakes were very high throughout, which I typically enjoy. The angst was fairly low in this novel, which I tend to prefer. This novel used the Algorithm Matched Bride trope so common in sci-fi romance. It also used the Partner in Trouble trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all three stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also three stars. The combined rating of this novel was therefore three stars. Ultimately, this novel was forgettable. This story had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a plus. I recommend this story to fans of sci-fi romances who want to check this story out from Kindle Unlimited for an undemanding waiting room read. I don't think I will read the next novel in the series when it releases, and I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
