4 Stars

The writing and editing in the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with only occasional typos. The world building was okay, if not especially vibrant. I do not know how much of that is a function of this book being the latest in a well established universe. The characterization was a little limp, with me the reader not really getting a good feel for the heroine's character, especially. The development of the romantic relationship was delicious, with the hero seeing the heroine and going, "MINE!". I love when that happens to a romance novel hero. The plot and pacing was quick and interesting, making the reading experience fly by. There was little angst and high stakes in this romance, which I tend to prefer in my romance novels. This novel uses the Mating Bond trope and a hint of the Enemies to Lovers trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were four stars. The characterization was three stars and the development of the romantic relationship was four stars. I rounded up and gave this novel a combined score of four stars. This novel has a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who want to read a short, fun sci-fi romance during a day that you do not have the energy to read a full length novel. I thought it was delightful. I look forward to reading the next book in the series when it releases, though I do not think I will buy myself a keeper copy of this story, though I enjoyed it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
