The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was a little rough, with many typos and awkwardly constructed sentences. The world building was pretty good, with the spooky atmosphere being perfect for a Halloween holiday romance. The characterization was competent, with the hero and heroine being sympathetic if not especially complex. The development of the romantic relationship was natural and organic, and I liked the fact that the author gave the heroine a year to heal from her abusive relationship before embarking on a relationship with the hero. The plot and pacing were a little rough, but quick. There was a fair amount of well justified angst and high stakes in this novel, which I enjoyed. There was the Partner in Trouble trope and the Mating Bond trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were also three stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were three stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of three stars. This novel had a Happy For Now ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a plus. I recommend this novel to someone looking for a short Halloween holiday romance. I may read the next book in this series when it releases. I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel because of the somewhat rough writing and editing.
