This novel was well written and edited, with few typos in the ARC version of the manuscript that I read. The world building of the prison was quite vibrant. The characterization of the hero and heroine was competent. The development of the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine was fairly organic, though the plot and feeling of doom permeating this novel did not leave as much room for the development of the romantic relationship. The plot and pacing of this novel was exciting, with me reading this novel in one sitting wanting to know what was going to happen next. There was very little angst in this novel and the stakes were very high, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Fated Mate trope and the Prison Planet trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were four stars, the characterization and development of the romantic relationship were three stars, with a combined score of three and a half stars. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that is a big plus to this novel. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sci-fi romances where the hero is an alien or fans of this author's other sci-fi romance series. I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel, though I did enjoy it quite a bit.
