4 Stars

The writing and editing of this novel was good, with few if any typos that I caught in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building of the Brava System was quite good, and something we did not get to see in previous novels in this series. The characterization of both hero and heroine was good, with both of them being sympathetic, vibrant individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was natural and organic. The plot and pacing was exciting, with me rapidly turning the pages because I wanted to know what was going to happen next! There was surprisingly little angst in this novel, considering how much hinting the author did about the awful reasons the heroine became a mercenary. The was high stakes, with both the hero and the heroine's life on the line. This story felt to me like it contained the Friends to Lovers trope, though the protagonists did not know each other well at the beginning of the novel. However, they both genuinely liked each other. The world building, plot, and pacing of this novel rated four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship also rated four stars. Therefore, the combined score of this novel was four stars. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus for this novel. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sweeter sci-fi romances. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, though I quite enjoyed it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
