The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I caught. The world building was okay, with the Academy not being very vivid in my mind. The characterization was okay, but I had a dislike of the hero. He held the heroine back in her studies and did not respect her skill as a pod racer, which I had a major problem with. I lost respect for the heroine getting sexually involved with someone who obviously did not respect her and tried to hold her back. The development of the romantic relationship between them did not work for me, because of the above reasons. The plot and pacing were tight and exciting. There was low angst and high stakes in this novel, which I usually enjoy. This novel used the Student/Teacher trope. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were two stars. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were four stars. This novel ends on a Happy For Now ending, which I found a little disappointing. I prefer true HEA's. I do not know that I recommend this novel to fans of sci-fi romance because of how the heroine was so disempowered and disrespected in this novel without her seeming to mind. I am not sure that I will read any further novels in this series. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
