4 Stars

The writing and editing of this story was clean, with few typos that I found in the ARC version of the manuscript. The world building was adequate, with historical New Orleans and the Caribbean island being fairly well described. The characterization was okay, with both protagonists being sympathetic individuals if a little flat. The development of the romantic relationship was spicy and believable. The kink scenes were pretty spicy, so that was enjoyable. The plot and pacing was quick and entertaining. There was little angst and fairly high stakes in this story, which tends to be one of my preferred structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Kidnapped Bride trope and the Forced Proximity trope. The world building, plot and pacing were all four stars. The characterization was three stars, and the development of the romantic relationship was four stars. I therefore rounded up and gave this novel a combined score of four stars. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a big plus to this story. I would be interested in reading the next book by this author, based on how I enjoyed this story. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
