5 Stars
The writing and editing of the ARC version was clean, with pretty sentences and no typos that I caught. The world building was excellent, with IPAC space and the world of Mudden coming to vivid life. The characterization of hero and heroine was very well done, with the both of them being complex individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship between these two characters was natural and organic. The plot and pacing was exciting, with me turning the pages rapidly to find out what was going to happen next! There was little angst in this story and high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel uses a touch of the Enemies to Lovers trope and the Algorithm Matched Bride trope used in many sci-fi romances. The world building, plot and pacing all rated five stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship also rated five stars. Therefore, the combined score of this novel was five stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus. I recommend this story to fans of thoughtful, well written, sci-fi romance with social commentary. I immediately went back and read the first book in this series after reading this delightful novel, and eagerly anticipate reading the future novels in this series. I may end up buying keeper copies of this whole series, if the future novels are as excellent as the first book and prequel novel.
