4 Stars
The writing and editing of this story was clean, with no typos that I found in the ARC version of the manuscript. The world building was interesting and vivid. I got vivid descriptions of the woods. The characterization was good, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet and organic. The plot and pacing was interesting and quick. There was a good amount of angst on the heroine's part, but it was fully justified, so I was able to enjoy it. The stakes were fairly high, which I also enjoyed. This story used the Partner in Trouble trope, the Forced Proximity trope, and a whiff of the Fated Mates trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. Therefore, the combined score of this novel was four stars. This story ended on a Happy Ever After instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus. I recommend this short time travel romance to anyone who prefers historical romances set during a time or place that is NOT Regency England. I am not a fan of ballrooms, so I really enjoyed it. I eagerly look forward to reading Leann Ryans' next novel. I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this romance simply because it is so short, not because it is not good.
