4 Stars

The writing and editing of this sci-fi romance was fairly clean, with occasional typos that did not detract from the overall reading experience. The world building was surprisingly vivid, with the popularity of human media used to great comedic affect in this intergalactic society. The characterization was deft, with both hero and heroine being surprisingly complex individuals with strengths and foibles. The development of the romantic relationship happened naturally and organically, especially considering how short this story was. The plot and pacing were both exciting, fast, and funny. This novel was medium-low in angst and had very high stakes, which I typically enjoy in my romance novels. This novel used the Algorithm Matched Mate trope commonly used in sci-fi romance novels. It also used the Enemies to Lovers trope and the Partner in Trouble trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined score of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy funny sci-fi romance hijinks. It was a much needed mood lifter for me! I look forward to reading the next book if the author turns it into a series. I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel yet, since this is a new to me author, though I did quite enjoy it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
