1 Star

The writing and editing of this story was very unprofessional, with multiple incorrectly constructed sentences and grammatical errors per page in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building was, well, there wasn't any, really. This entire novel takes place on Earth in contemporary times. In fact, if you are expecting space opera, look elsewhere. This novel is basically a poorly written contemporary romance in most respects. The characterization was terrible, with this heroine being a contemptible cardboard cutout and the hero being an inoffensive cardboard cutout. The plot and pacing was not great, with me looking up every so often as I was reading and being quite surprised at how slow the clock was moving. This novel contained my least favorite narrative structure, high angst and low stakes. This novel contains the Fated Mates trope, I think? It was so poorly written that I could not figure out if that was what "chosen mates" meant, as mentioned by the hero. The plot, pacing, and world building rated one star. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship rated one star. The unprofessional writing and poor quality control of this manuscript rated one star. Therefore, the combined rating of this novel was one star. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After, which I would normally consider a major plus, but this novel was so poorly written that the HEA ending did not add much to the reading experience. I do not recommend anyone who enjoys sci-fi romance read this. I am not going to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, for sure. I did not enjoy it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
