The writing and editing of this novel was pretty clean in the ARC version of the manuscript, with occasional typos. Hopefully those will be corrected in the retail version. The world building was pretty good, with me the reader getting a feeling that the alien warrior's culture was deeply patriarchal in the past and is slowly changing. The set up of the Bride Games as reality TV was also pretty fun. The characterization was competent, with the hero and heroine both being sympathetic if not especially nuanced. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet, and I bought into their HEA at the end. The plot and pacing was a little clunky, but I still enjoyed it. There was a little angst on the part of the heroine and medium stakes, so I still enjoyed this novel even though the stakes were not sky high. I typically prefer really high stakes in my romance novels. This novel used the Bachelor TV Show trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing was four stars. The characterization was three stars and the development of the romantic relationship was four stars. I rounded up and gave this novel a combined rating of four stars because I did quite enjoy it. This novel ends with a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy the Mail Order Bride trope in sci-fi romance with a little bit of a different twist. I am excited to read the next book in this series featuring the runner! Very Exciting! I cannot wait to read her book. I do not yet plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, but I may go back and buy the whole series if the next book is as good as this one or better.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
