This novel was fairly cleanly written, without enough typos or wrong word choices to cause an inability to enjoy the story. The characterization of this novel was well done, with a heroine especially being a vibrant individual. The world building and plot of this story was somewhat unclear and confusing for me to figure out, so I would say that the overall plot was poorly done. The spicy scenes were quite enjoyable and well done, and the five heroes of this romance were quite heroic and their characterization was quite well done. I was initially hesitant to read this novel because of the content warning at the beginning that it was quite a dark, disturbing romance. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that that was not the case, at least for me. The heroes of this novel would make this novel ineligible as a dark romance, in my opinion, because these heroes did not do double duty as the villains of the novel, which to my understanding is the definition of a dark romance. I would categorize this novel to be dystopian romance instead, with the scientists filling the role of villain. This installment ends on a cliffhanger, but thankfully this series is a duology with both novels being available, so readers who despise cliffhangers can check out or buy both books and read them immediately one after the other.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
