3 Stars
The writing and editing of this trilogy was quite good, with few grammatical errors and quite a historical flair to the language used in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building of Dark Ages Scandinavia in this novel was competent but very briefly sketched out. The characterization of all three couples was somewhat thin, in my opinion, with the characters being sympathetic but not particularly vibrant. The kink scenes in this novel were well drawn but did not strike me as particularly sexy. In fact, all three stories in this trilogy were surprisingly tame, as far as sexy times goes. The development of the romantic relationships in this trilogy were not particularly romantic. I did not really see any of these couples go through the process of falling in love in a way that I was rooting for their HEA. The plot and pacing of these three stories was quick and exciting, meaning I was turning pages rapidly to find out what was going to happen next. All three stories in this trilogy contained the Fighting Against an Arranged Marriage trope. The plot and pacing was four stars. The world building was three stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationships was three stars. The sexy times were two stars. Therefore, the combined score for this trilogy was three stars. Each of these stories end on a Happy Ever After ending, so that is a big plus to the trilogy. I recommend this trilogy to fans of the author, or fans of domestic discipline historical romances. For me, this was my first Joannie Kay book, and I am pretty sure it will be my last. I do not plan on buying myself a keeper copy of this trilogy. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
