4 Stars

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was pretty good, though this alien sci-fi romance took place almost entirely on contemporary Earth in the USA. That is something I personally find disappointing as a sci-fi romance reader because I love world building and one of the big reasons I read sci-fi romances is the chance to visit alien worlds and societies. The characterization was well done, with the hero and heroine both being sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet and organic. The plot and pacing were quick and tight, meaning I read this novel in one sitting. There was medium low angst in this novel and fairly high stakes, so I enjoyed it. I prefer my romance novels to have high stakes. This novel used the Fated Mates trope and the Hidden Identity trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were both four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were both four stars. I rounded up and gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a plus. I recommend this novel to readers who would enjoy a fun, short sci-fi romance to lift the mood. I would probably enjoy reading the next novel in this series when it releases, though I will not buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
