4 Stars

The writing and editing of this novel was fairly clean, with only occasional typos that I found in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building was fairly vibrant in this story, with the prison and laboratory really coming to life. The characterization was competent in this story, with the hero and heroine being sympathetic characters if not especially vibrantly drawn. The development of the romantic relationship was fairly organic, considering how much was going on in the plot of this story. The plot and pacing was exciting, with me turning the pages rapidly to find out what was going to happen next! There was a low-medium amount of angst in this story related to the fact that the hero and heroine had both been kidnapped by the scientists, experimented on, and were being forced to breed, which was totally understandable and appropriate. The stakes were also really high, which I prefer in all the romance novels I read. This book used the Prison Planet trope, the Breeder trope, and the Forced Proximity trope. The world building, plot, and pacing all rated four stars. The characterization rated three stars, and the development of the romantic relationship rated four stars. I rounded up the final score of this novel to four stars. This story ends on a Happy Ever After instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this novel. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy sci-fi romances with alien heroes which read like adventure novels. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, though I did enjoy it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
