4 Stars

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was pretty clean, with only occasional typos that I found. The world building of this dystopian society was vivid and grim. The characterization was especially good for the heroine. She was a sympathetic character with strengths and weaknesses. I was rooting for her throughout this story. The development of the romantic relationship was a rollercoaster ride, with me hating the hero as the heroine did and then falling in love with him by the end as the heroine did. The plot and pacing was tight and exciting. There was high angst and high stakes in this novel. Because of the high stakes, I was able to enjoy the high angst, especially since it was well justified. This novel used the Enemies to Lovers trope, the Romantic Hero as Villain trope, and the Mating Bond trope. The world building, plot and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy dark m/f omegaverse romances. I would like to read the next novel this author writes. I will be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
