The writing and editing in the ARC version of the manuscript was a little rough, with some typos and awkwardly constructed sentences. The world building was minimal, with me not getting a good feel for these alien worlds or societies. The characterization was somewhat thin, with hero and heroine being sympathetic if not especially complex. The development of the romantic relationship was of the insta-lust variety. The plot and pacing were quick and exciting, meaning I read this story in one sitting. There was low angst and high stakes in this novel, which I typically prefer. This novel used the Fated Mates trope and the Gladiator trope. The world building was two stars. The plot and pacing were three stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were three stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of three stars. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a plus. I recommend this story to readers who are looking for a quick, undemanding waiting room read. I do not want to read the next book in this series when it comes out, and I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
