The writing and editing of this novel was well done, with few typos that I caught in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building of this novel was better than the previous novels in this series, with me the reader really getting a good feel for the Schaani home world compared to the previous novels in this series. The characterization of the heroine was pretty good, with her being a sympathetic character throughout. However, the hero was a verbally abusive, crazy jealous man child who liked to throw tantrums. Not what I am looking for in a romance novel hero. The development of the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine was hard to buy into, therefore. I could not figure out why the heroine loved the hero, since he was eminently unloveable. The plot and pacing were much better than the previous novels in this series, with the threat of invasion and plenty of action sequences providing excitement. The angst was really high on the hero's part, which was one of the things which made him such an unlikeable character, and the stakes were very high in this novel, which I tend to prefer in my romance novels. This novel uses the Mars Needs Women trope and the Mating Bond trope. The world building, plot, and pacing of this novel rates four stars, and the development of the romantic relationship between these characters rates two stars, with the characterization of the hero rating one star, for a combined score of three stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this story. I recommend this romance to readers of sci-fi romances who also enjoy medieval romances, since this alien culture feels very medieval to this reader. I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel, even though I did enjoy many aspects of it.
