This novel was cleanly written and edited, with few typos that I could discern. The world building was one of the best things about this novel, with it being pretty well drawn. The characterization was better in this novel than the first in the series, but I still had a bit of a hard time sympathizing and connecting with these characters. The development of the romance between these two characters left me pretty cold. I did not really feel the love between them or fall in love with their romance. This novel uses the Mars Needs Women trope, and the Marriage of Convenience trope. This series feels more like a fantasy or historical series than a sci-fi one, which is also enjoyable for me to read. The angst in this novel is fairly high and the stakes surprisingly low, with not that many adventure or suspense elements in this plot, or at least that is what it felt like to me. I tend to enjoy higher stakes in my romance novels. Other readers may enjoy this alien sci-fi romance quite a bit, but the weakest part of this novel being the development of the romance between the hero and the heroine detracted somewhat from my enjoyment of it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
