4 Stars
The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was pretty clean, with only occasional typos. Hopefully those will be fixed in the retail version. The world building of far future Earth was quite vivid. The characterization was competent, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals. The development of the romantic relationship was very hot. Five chili peppers. The plot and pacing was tight and exciting, meaning I read this novel in one sitting. There was low angst and very high stakes in this romance, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Fated Mates trope and the Breeder trope common to sci-fi romance. The world building, plot and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers of sci-fi romance who like really hot chili pepper books. I really look forward to reading the next novel in this series when it releases. I plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.
