5 Stars

This novel was well written and edited, with me catching few typos in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building was excellent, with me the reader getting a vibrant picture of the Aelvan Realm, Human Realm, and the Dominion and Rebellion too. The characterization was excellent, with these two protagonists coming alive on the page, and making me root for both of them. The development of the romantic relationship was natural and organic, and it was super fun to watch these two immensely guarded characters fall in love despite themselves! The plot and pacing was excellent, with the mystery elements tying in seamlessly with the political machinations. The pacing made me rapidly turn the pages, wanting to know what was going to happen next! There was a relatively low amount of angst in this novel and very high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel uses the Enemies to Lovers trope and a touch of the Kidnapping trope. The world building, plot, and pacing all rated five stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship also rated five stars. That means this novels' combined score was five stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this novel. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy fantasy romance novels. I do not currently plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
