2 Stars

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was somewhat sloppy, with multiple typos per page that detracted somewhat from the reading experience and awkwardly constructed sentences. Hopefully it will be copy edited again for retail release. The world building was okay. Reka 5 was not especially vibrant in this novel. The characterization was okay, with the protagonists being sympathetic if not especially nuanced or complex. The development of the romantic relationship was all right, with the heroine experiencing some not well justified angst about a relationship with the hero that was somewhat irritating to read. The stakes were fairly high, so the pacing was quick. The plot was a bit of a mess, however. This novel used the Military Hero trope, the Partner in Trouble trope, and the Mating Bond trope. The editing was two stars. The world building was two stars. The pacing was three stars. The plot was three stars. The characterization was three stars, and the development of the romantic relationship was two stars. I settled on two stars as the combined rating for this novel because of the egregious quality control issues with the editing. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a plus. I do not recommend this sci-fi romance to other readers. I feel like there are many others that are more more enjoyable and more professionally produced. I do not think I will read any other books in this series, and I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
