The writing and editing of the manuscript was fairly clean in the ARC version of the manuscript, with occasional typos. Hopefully that will be fixed in the retail version. The world building was not especially vivid. I thought the world building was better in the first novel in this series. The characterization was okay, with hero and heroine both being sympathetic if not especially complex or vivid individuals. The development of the romantic relationship was the best part of this novel. The plot and pacing was a little slow for a romantic suspense sci-fi romance, with less adventure elements or spaceship chases than I liked. There was little angst in this novel and fairly high stakes, which I typically enjoy in a romance novel. This novel used the Road Trip trope, the Forced Proximity trope, the Mating Bond trope and a hint of the Daddy trope. One of the best things about this series is how important consent is in Vostra culture. The world building, plot, and pacing were all three stars. The characterization was three stars. The development of the romantic relationship was four stars. I therefore rounded down and gave it a combined rating of three stars. The novel ended on a Happy Ever After instead of a cliffhanger, so that was a big plus. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy their sci-fi romances with some BDSM elements. I look forward to reading the next book in the series when it releases, though I will not be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
